Senior Life Solutions
Aging brings many joys – more time with family and freedom in retirement – but our older years can also bring difficult life transitions including the loss of loved ones and stress from age-related health concerns.
Johnson County Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient group therapy program designed to meet the unique needs of older adults typically over the age of 65 struggling with symptoms of depression and anxiety often related to aging.
If you or someone you know has recently experienced any of the following, this program might be right for you:
- Recently experienced a traumatic event
- Lost a spouse or close family member
- Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
- Changes in appetite
- Difficulty sleeping or changes in sleep patterns
- Loss of energy
- Feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
- Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness
Following an individual assessment, patients meet up to three times per week in a supportive, encouraging group setting.
Referrals to the program can be made by anyone, including a patient’s physician, family member, the patient themselves, or another healthcare professional.
The program staff includes a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed social workers, a registered nurse, and other professionals dedicated to the emotional well-being of the seniors in our community.

Senior Life Solutions Participant Testimonial
During the time I was a patient at Johnson County Hospital, a young man came into my room to visit with me. He asked me a few questions and then gently asked if there was anything bothering me. I immediately began to cry.
I had been sick for three weeks before being hospitalized and was so ill I could not keep up with daily tasks. I was also experiencing a great deal of anxiety and felt completely overwhelmed, unsure of how to cope. As I began to cry again, he explained the Senior Life Solutions program to me. The program included other participants and was offered right here at JCH. My Medicare and insurance covered the sessions, I joined the program and attended my first session the following week.
The therapist and Senior Life Solutions staff made me feel welcome and genuinely cared for. Participants took part in both group and individual sessions.
Over time, the Senior Life Solutions staff helped me to gain confidence to do what I needed to do; to believe in myself so that I could heal and move forward. I highly recommend Johnson County Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions Program. Participation in group sessions help to provide the support and skills that will help you build confidence in yourself. You will gain a greater appreciation for what you can do to support your own well-being.
